i have a male min pin that is about 27 weeks old who just is not getting the whole puupy pad, out door, potty training deal. his name is duke, and other than that, he is a really good dog. we have tried every method under the sun, and been consistant, and nothing works. what is so frusterating about all of this, is about a month ago, we got our girl min pin, lady, for christmas, who is not even half duke's age, and she is already almost trained. what is he not getting and what do i do? the deal is that we are moving to florida the first of feb. and if duke is not showing any sign of hope, i do not think that i will be taking him with me, as the apartment complex is very strict animals as is for this very reason.

He might have an infection have you checked with your vet?Have you also tried crate training?A dog usualy will not potty where he sleeps. Keep him in the crate, letting him out to go to the bathroom. But it is possible he is just housetrainable, and will have be kept in a crate or a small part of the house.

My male min pin will be 2 in a few months. I have the same problem. If he is outside he will go for the most part but not always and will never hold it if he is in. He also doesn't do rain. I ask myself what is wrong with him He is good in every other way. A very lovable and smart dog. I guess I do not have an answer but am very sympathetic to your problem. I also now do not feel so alone. I am in FL. Hope you enjoy it. Please don't get rid of Duke. He probably loves the heck out of you.

first throw away the pee pads, these alone can confuse some dogs. as you've taught him to pee inside. buy a crate and crate train him. a crate should only be big enough for them to stand up turn around and lay back down. if you think there is a medical problem as for why he can't hold his pee then take him to a vet to be checked over. crate training is great since most dogs will not soil where they sleep. it is not cruel, you are giving him his own safe place and many dogs come to take refuge in it when older. good luck.

People have been asking about how to house train their dog for weeks, even more since Christmas came around. You have to realize that house training takes anywhere from 6 to 7 months for a dog to fully be house trained. Even after that a dog is house trained after no accidents 8 weeks to be considered fully house trained.

To house train your dog you need to take your dog out daily, since your dog is smaller (Toy Dog) your dog will need to go out perhaps more than 3 times a day. If your dog is a puppy then your dog does not know how to hold it in that long and will need to relieve himself more than 3 times a day.

You should be taking your dog out in the morning after he eats, at night after he eats, before he goes to bed, and numerous times throughout the day. Everytime your dog goes out and pee/poop you should reward your dog with a treat so that he gets the idea that it's good to go outside.

You also need to establish a routine that your dog can get use to. My puppy when I got her stayed @ my boyfriend's house and then when I took her back to my apartment I had to train her again. Then we establish the one week here and the weekend there.

You should also try crate training. I heard it's very sucessful with some dogs (my dog isn't that sucessful with it). Purchase a crate and make it comfortable for your dog and put him in the crate @ night. Naturally your dog will start to hold in his pee/poop until the morning because he probably doesn't want to spend hours having poop/pee in his crate. In the morning after you take him out of the crate you need to immediately take him outside to
pee.

When you have your dog out you need to be aware of possible signs that your dog needs to go outside. My dog will become increasingly needed and cling to me, she will bark @ me, or she will run around in front of the door. If I don't take her out when she does one of these signs then she will simply pee on the floor or poop and it's my fault because she told me and I didn't take her out.

House taining as I said earlier is a long drawn out process and you have to be patient, understanding, and have time to do this with your dog. I had my dog for 3 months Jan 21 and she will be semi-house trianed with more time to go. I'm expecting her to be fully house trained by the time she's 1 year old.

Good Luck. Hope these tips helped.

Also I have a 6 month min pin and when I got her 4 months she was not house trained, and even at 6 months she's progressing towards house training, but she still has a way to go.

When you move to Floriday is also may prolong house training because all your dogs have to get use to a new enviorment/surroundings/etc. Training is just time, patience, consitancy, and lots of patience.

why are you taking the girl pup out before she is fully protected against parvo and other such diseases ? the male is fully protected against these and he will always be harder to train than the girl that is with any breed . I would be very carefull taking the girl mini pin out before she is fully vaccinated. good luck and god bless.
