most digging is either breed related or boredom..
some dogs were bred to dig up rodents.. if this is the case then you have to live with the breed you selected and its associated behaviors
other dogs require mental stimulation to keep them happy.. when they dont have a job to do.. they look for one and often its "digging"

Don't buy a dog that digs! Too many dog owners don't know what they're getting into when they buy a dog. Most instictual habits are very very difficult to break. Everyone should do research on the breed before purchasing a dog. The best thing to do is keep your dog occupied and excersied. As someone said before - this could be caused by boredom and if this is the case, you may be able to stop it, but it will be a lot of hard work on your part.

You should watch the show "The Dog Whisperer" that guy is awesome! Anyway, based on his teaching, I would say you are not keeping your dog busy enough or getting it enough exercise.
I have heard of an unconventional way to get your dog to stop doing it, but I wouldn't do it. A friend of mine was having that problem until he filled the hole with water and stuck the dogs head in it. It sounds kinda mean to me, but he said it worked.

my dog (husky shepard mix) stopped digging (and eating the mail) after i started running him twice per day for at least 30 minutes each time. give your dog a reason to be tired. play.exercise. etc

Put her in a concrete pen, or hope that she poops a lot. Digging seems to be a natural instinct for some dogs.

what worked for my dog was putting her poop in the hole she dugg, apparently they smell it and it makes them lean away form it. after about a month she quit all together, that would be a easy way to try. good luck

You might be leaving him outside too much and he is getting bored. Your dog wants to be with you and he wants you to play with him.
