Thanks a lot for your answers. I've decided for honey coloured highlights (i've got brown hair) to lessen the damaging effects.
Happy New Year everyone!

hi all colour will damage your hair in some way!

the best thing you can do is have it done professionally and only get the re-growth touched up! to stop the ends drying up!

i hope this helps!

I've been dying my own hair for about a year now.
I had highlights and the blonde still comes through so I have to dye over the blonde with a colour similar to my own. I used to have it done by the hairdresser but found it really damaging, and my hair even became broken.

I now use the Garnier Nutrisse or Castings Creme Gloss. Both claim to be nourishing to the hair, and my hair is in much better condition than it used to be!
It's also very shiny with both products.

Good luck.

.don't be fooled by word like 'nourishing' and 'bio-something-or-other formula', these are just a clever little disguise to distract you from the fact that its an ammonia based hair colour like all the rest. on the plus d.i.y hair colours do contain thing that will disguise the effects of continuous hair colouring so if you just want your hair looking good then look for colours that promote shine. hope this helps.

They all damage your hair to a degree..But usually its a risk many of us take..Just make sure to follow instructions thouroughly and to condition every time with a colour preserve shampoo and conditioner. These really do help.I have coloured my hair for years and its in pretty good condition although it is thick..the thinner your hair is and the more treatments you apply the risk of damage increases.
Hope this helps.

I used Garnier Nutrisse.

I had a highlight disastor and this worked perfectly!

My hair is lush now, much better than before, so I'm promoting Garnier as much as possible, lol.

One tip, never use Clairol Fearless Highlights. They suck.

I've heard of this natural hair colouring that is supposed to be good(see link) it's the least damaging one i have seen.
It's available from Herbatint :

I am also a hairstylist and I agree that Garnier is a good one. But remember to only do the roots after the first application, condition well in between colorings and keep those ends trimmed. That's how you keep your hair healthy looking.

unfortunately they all damage the hair, mainly because the potencies are different to ones in hairdressers.

if you have to use one though, try nice n easy by clairol. they have a colour conditioner that comes with it now which is brilliant, but really try and get to a hairdressers! xxx

If you're looking to dye your hair with permanent hair dye then I would recommend L'Oreal Hydrience..It's a water based dye.At least that's what the girl told me..I used it and my hair didn't dry out.

for me it depends in the girl. Like I might observe a girl with black hair and also think she is totally hot but see a girl with blond tresses that is meh and vice versa.
