I have a 100% human hair wig that I got on clearance from paulayoung.com, and it is not really my color... The wig is a medium-brown/red, and my hair is dark brown. What dye should I use? How should I do it? How do I know what dye is the right color?

I can't afford to have it professionally done, so please don't tell me to. I need to know how to do it myself, at home.

It is possible to do it yourself. Usually hair colour boxes show what colour you will get with the use of swatches. you can also do a strand test.
Make sure you get enough hair colour, depending on the hair length etc. Start from the root, working your way to the ends.
Alternatively there are some companies out there who can colour the wig for you, but there are *very few*. good luck

it will be really messy-but go to a sally's or something-they can at least help you match up the color really good with swatch books. get something semi permanent-because your going a little darker it won't wash out...and how often are you gonna wash it ne way.....it will just look better, and shinier. trying to find something to hold it will be a challenge. You can ask at sallys if they have like one of those styrofoam head forms to but the wig on while you color it. make sure to pin it to the form so it will stay better-get gloves and make sure you saturate it really well with color, and it usually processes 20-30 mins after you have finished applying. have fun :)

**the clairol stuff at sally's will at least be a little better than the crap at the grocery store**

If I were you, I'd take it to a beauty shop and have them professionally dye the wig. If you use the wrong dye or conditions, the wig could either shrink or dissolve.
