i mechanic for a living, and you need to check the thermostat first and see if its working,,if its been over a year since i was last replaced id put a new one in it,also make sure the coolant is circulating real good in it,sometimes there's a sludge like material that gets built up in it that cause the heater core to get stopped up,,you might need to have it flushed out real good,if you do the both of these you should get good heat back, providing you don't have any leaks ,and make sure the control unit on the inside is working properly on it,if you flush it out,set it all the way on hot while you refill it,this will keep if from air locking on you,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.happy new years.

Check that you have water in the radiator!!!
Seriously! It could be that your rad has drained so there is nothing carrying heat to the heater.
I speak as one who found that out the hard way!

Your heater core may have gone out. Replace it and see if the problems still occurs.
