OK 3000 dead = approx 750 a year, out of a force of about 150,000 at any one time. From a thousand soldiers serving a full year there, five might be expected to die (and about fifty to be wounded).
Actually, about 12 people in every thousand die each year in civilian life, but obviously not usually fit young people such as go out to Iraq.
The death rate from all causes (bombs, collapsed health system....) among Iraqis has hugely increased. This is how estimates of 600,000 Iraqi deaths have been worked out. Such a figure would suggest it is currently twice as dangerous to be a civilian in Iraq as to be a US soldier.
Whatever, however many dead is too many.

Since 2003, we have rotated some1.5 million soldiers through Iraq. Of that, we have lost 3,000.
Well less than 1%.
My chances of going home alive are better than my drive to work in the civilian world, everyday.

Odds are very low. You figure that over 130,000 troops have been there since April of 2003 and only 3000 have died. It's less than 1 % , but, every one of them is missed and it hurts when only one dies.

3,000 killed of 300,000 sent to Iraq ... that is 1:100 ... or 1%.
My math is approximate, you can update with your numbers.

8 out of 10, it's a dangerous war, and as far as I'm concerned, people are starting to call it the new civil war. In my opinion, no one is wining, people are dieing from both sides.
