You really need to get one at a time and make sure it is well adjusted and trained and doing everything you want it to do - fully bonded to you - before getting another. When people get 2 puppies at the same time it is much much harder to train them, they are less likely to bond to you, and they are less likely to ever perform like you would like due to them having another "pack" member to bond to.
Also, you will be best off to get one of each sex, so you are less likely to get intersex aggression if you get 2 boys or 2 girls... and regardless of which sexes you get... get them spayed and neutered!
I agree with your husband, but would wait 8-10 months, not just a few. Make sure the first one is adequately trained before getting number 2!!!

I would suggest getting them at seperate times. Remember, 2 puppies means 2 to house train, get all shots, getting fixed, and so on. Also, 2 times the hyperness from the puppies and such. Wait to get the second one for a few months or so until the first puppy gets used to you both and the new home and you can get it house trained some. Then introduce the new puppy into the home.
I got a puppy when my first dog was about 2 years old and had no problems introducing the puppy. It did take some time for them to get used to each other but my first dog loves other dogs and loves to play with other dogs so that may have helped some. Now they are best buddies and play tag and tug of war! Hey they even sleep together now too! We crate them at night and found them sleeping in the same kennel before we could put them in them for the night. We just left the door open and when the other one wanted to be alone, she just went into her own kennel.

One first then the second in 6-8 months. Talk to the vet about which sex to get in which breed.
I did it exactly this way with my two Scottish Terriers. I cannot imagine two puppies at one time, but if you've got the newspaper and energy to tackle such an enormous amount of peepee and poo poo..Go for it!! Not me.
Set this to the melody of the 12 days of Chrismas.
One crate a tumbling
Two mouths a whining
Three bowls a tipping
Four --- scrambling--- paws
Five neighbors complaining
Six accidents a staining
Seven nights no sleeping
OK you get the picture... ha ha
Happy New Year. Take lots of photos

I have 2 puppies right now -- one is 2 1/2 months (male black lab) and the other is 4 1/2 months (female Aussie/lab mix). I've had them since they were 7 weeks and 9 weeks.
I would not do 2 brand new puppies at the same time, same day, same week... I had my first pup housebroken and knowing basic commands before I brought the other one in and he mimics her and that has made it SO much easier. (the youngest didn't even need housebreaking)
Be prepared for all the money you will be spending! Good puppy food for large breed pups (like Nutro), baby gates, LOTS of toys (rope toys for tug of war!). I have a small (20' x 20') fenced in back yard and it has been completely renovated for them..the ground (grass) is dig proof and we even have a sand box just for them to dig in. (Natural instinct)
Have fun!!!

I would suggest getting 2 puppies at the same time. I recommend this idea because I have 3 dogs living in my house. The first dog we already had (which was named LuLu) didn't like the new puppy we got.(which was named Pippin) LuLu started getting jealous of Pippin, but later on they started getting along.
Later on we got another puppy (named Ruby). The dogs hated her, they barked and showed their teeth at her.Now they still kinda get along. I recommend getting 2 puppies at the same time so there is no jealousy,or hatred between the two dogs so they may get along with each other.
Even though the dogs started getting along, sooner or later, none of this would of happened if we would of got the dogs at the same time.
P.S. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hi
I have to agree with you getting 2 puppies at the same time is harder but better for the puppies in the long run. They will bond better and the territorial issue isn't there. They can fall into their roles faster of who is more dominate and there should be less conflict.

It is NEVER a good idea to get two puppy's at the same time. In over 50 years of training and handling dogs, I have never seen a single dog live up to it's potential when this was done. The dogs social skills will be adversely effected. (pack instinct)

If you get them at the same time, they tend to bond to each other & not humans. They many times are also harder to housetrain.
It is best to get one housetrained & let it bond, then add the second dog - 8 months to 1 year later. They will still both be 'puppys', but the older dog can help the younger learn faster.

You should get both of them at the same time so then it won't take such a long time for them to get used to each other. Also, the first puppy might get territorial and they will fight. They would grow up like bros or sis and they would be life time friends.
