why do so many people fall for the "ask forgiveness (and pay lots of money to me) and you will live forever" scam?

they want to belong to the group so badly that they will even pay a charlatan. religion is nothing more than a fraternity or sorority. most are lacking big time in the social department.

Because they need to have an intellectual crutch. They can't stand alone so they think they need something to hold them up.
It's really quite pathetic. If I did the same thing the churches do, I'd be in jail PDQ...

Where do you get this money thing? The bible tells me to help the poor and starving people in the world. Any one who wants me to pay them "lots of money" is wasting time on me.
