Hi, I'm 18 years old and am generally a happy person, even if I am mostly quiet and slightly introverted, I do have a outgoing and confident side to me which my friends see an awful lot. During those times I feel really energetic and refreshed, but there are other times I just feel like crying for no apparent reason. It is getting to the stage where I sometimes don't feel like getting up in the mornings which is highly unlike me and I'm doing exercise and eating healthily to try and combat some of the symptoms. I want to sort this thing out now, but am not sure how to go about it. I would be more than happy to try any alternative therapies but I dont want to succumb to taking antidepressants if I can help it. Might it just be a hormonal imbalance, or dysthymia? I'm just totally confused right now and I dont, like many others, want this truthfully minor thing to affect my everyday life anymore. I want to be active!!
Any comments or answers would be really appreciated.
Thanks guys

It could well be hormonal, go to a gynae or GP and ask for tests. Make sure you are eating a healthy balanced diet; try a multivitamin supplement, it may help a good deal.
If you are on the pill your hormones may indeed be imbalanced.
Well done you for searching for a solid, non-drug-based answer. Often drugs treat the symptoms while the problem goes merrily on. Proud of you!

I don't believe chronic depression has anything to do with spirituality. I suffered from severe post partum depression which turned 'chronic' and lasted almost ten years! Depression mediciation helped in the short term and talk therapy helped some too. Then I went to a doctor who did a complete chemical makeup and helped balance the things that had become unbalanced during my first pregnancy. I believe medication should not be used as a bandaid and God had nothing to do with the illness or the recovery.

It could be a hormonal imbalance, as well as depression. Please go see a gynecologist to get your hormone levels tested.

If these levels indicate normality, then try taking St. John's Wort for mild depression. It has helped a lot of people, and for many, St. John's Wort is a far better avenue to take versus taking antidepressants!!!! Vitamin B and pantothenic acid helps energy lelevels as well!

If St. John's Wort and Vitamind B and pantothenic acid do not help, however, please do not completely choose to stay away from antidepressants. The longer your depression goes on, it will be more difficult to treat, and the longer it will take for you to get well.

Many new antidepressants have very minimal side effects, and the rewards are great! If need be, please just talk to your doctor about trying a mild antidepressant.

Good luck to you!

It could be just hormones, but you should see your dr because it could be depression. I have depression. It started when I was a teen and I, and everyone else, just overlooked it. I never went to see a dr til it got really bad. I regret not going sooner.

Slow down your meat intake, nowadays they feed animals lots of chemicals. Eat mostly fruits & vegetables and get some sun.

Why don't you see a counselor/therapist (they don't prescribe drugs - only psychiatrists).
