hi. i need some input on which course has a better outlook, electrical n electronic engineering (EE) or mechanical engineering. after much researching, i think mechanical is more physical, dealing with motors n machines whereas i think EE is more...mathematical?? the mech course module scares me bcos of the amount of lab work and the physical principles. i reckon i am more of a mathematical person. but the counselor assures me that Mech has a lot of design components n the idea of car design is cool ( i like design). help, im lost and i need to make a decision REALLY SOON...can someone in these industries or know them well give me some advice? plus im a girl, and i heard a lot of people say both the engineering majors r biased to the ladies. what do u think? my guypal currently in EE even mocked me for even considering to do engineering LOL

First of all, half the engineers coming out of Asia are women, and worldwide, about a fourth. And, girls are people, too. They can learn, they need to work, and they have dreams. Your acquaintances' attitude is childish. And 30 years ago, there was a lot of juvenile opposition to women engineers, but among thoughtful people, they were always welcome.

There are a lot of women EEs in the telecom and chip industries, especially if you travel to China, Singapore, West Coast USA, or England.

You should think not which engineering degree you want, but what you want to do with your life.

EE is a math heavy endeavor, and ME is more physical in outlook. But those are just the prelims. After school, both open great vistas to you. Personally, I fell into traveling with Satellite earthstation installations around the world with my EE.

What do you like about design and math? Architecture is the great integrator between those two fields. Perhaps with an ME and your own dreams, you could go into Architecture for grad school, and design grand, sweeping, buildings and cities.

Good luck with your dream!
