Gonzo (aka Gonzo the Great or the Great Gonzo) is a puppet character, one of Jim Henson's Muppets. He was developed and performed by Dave Goelz. The character made his first appearance in a 1970 Christmas special entitled "The Great Santa Claus Switch". Known as a weirdo, he is considered one of The Frackles. Since his character lived in a cigar box, he was called the "Cigar Box Frackle".

Gonzo was a one-off...he was always, fantastically, gloriously, unashamedly himself!
Miss Piggy always called him a "wierdo"...I don't know if that merely means "different from what I find acceptable" or if it is a socioracial designation.
The world needs more Gonzos!

He looks like some kind of bird, but in MUPPETS FROM SPACE (or whatever it's called), it turns out he's an alien.

I think he was an alien of some kind. ( i remember a star wars episode or something where he's revealed to be from outer space...)

except his girlfriends were always chickens. Maybe he was a scrawny rooster.
