Legally - an engagement ring is a conditional gift - given on the condition that a marriage takes place. If that condition is not met, the ring goes back to the person who paid for it. The courts have made some exceptions for cases were the giver ended up breaking the contract (the guy cheated, etc) but in most cases, you gotta give it back.

Yes, since you broke the engagement, you must give the ring back. This would hold up in a court of law if he were to take it that far, so just do the right thing and give it back now.

Yes...the ring signifies your union to be without end. To keep it after you dump him is the same as stealing. Clearly, greed holds your heart to even ask the question. Perhaps it was best until you show your quality as a decent woman that you did dump him.

not only should you give the ring back now you should include in the return of the ring an appology and offer him some incoragement in regards to his being of desire to women.

yes..an engagement ring is a contract in the eyes of the courts..its saying that you are agreeing to marry him, and its the proper thing to do.. no matter who was right or wrong in the break up
