Israel is great! I would respond to your question in Hebrew too, but I don't know how to use Hebrew writing on this, lol! The people there, just like anywhere else in the world are different, but they are great! If you are thinking of visiting there, I would say it's a definite "Do not miss" !! Hope you make the right decision! ;)

Yes, it's true, to find the answers to the first two questions, the best way... no, the only way to truly discover them is to travel to Israel, meet many people, see as much as you can... not the cliched tourist things, but people should go and try more to gain a sense of everyday life in Israel.
As for what people think of Israel... most Europeans hate it. Many Americans hate it, many don't... it's a given that most all Muslims anywhere in the world hate it, if not calling for its destruction altogether...

I know lots of other countries are just as beautiful, but I'm seriously in love with my israel. It's more than the land, it's our special Jewish connection to this place.
Every time I travel in Israel I have this amazing feeling. It's hard to explain it, but I'll do my best :) . It's like...a tourist feeling. Sooooo what is a tourist feeling? It's a feeling of pure and wonderful excitement like not wanting to close your eyes in case you miss something. But you'd think the tourist feeling should wear off by now. After all, it is my home.
Yet somehow, whenever I realize how blessed I am to be in a jewish state-- my country, my jewish home--and in merely 58 years we've managed to become this amazing place. We have the old and the new. THe kibutzim and the high-tech companies (and there are lots of both). Jewish communities built on kedusha and the torah+mitzvot. The thriving beautiful Hebrew language revived in the late late 19th century thanks to Eliezer Ben Yehuda and the first settlers. The heart and soul of the country, Yerushalayim (to which, by the way, I can get to by train- soo easy!)
I love it here, I love hearing Hebrew on the radio, I love everyone walking around on erev shabat, I love not having to check kosher foods in the supermarket, I love being so independent here, and i love that feeling of tradition of a long loooooong generation of yehudim!
So basically, this is my home in every aspect now (although I admit the road was bumpy) and I'd never leave it for the world.
*hey Motti (lol that's my uncle's name...)- If you have Hebrew on your comp, all you have to do is switch your language to Hebrew, regularly. (alt-shift).

My sister-in-law has lived in Israel for 20 years and she loves it there. She's never been worried about her safety, has many friends there, and will only be moving back to the states in a year because she must retire. She lives alone and has no other family over there, so wants to be closer to family in her "old age". I've never had the chance to go there myself, but she tells me it's a lovely place. She lives in Jerusalem. One of the nicer things about living there is closer access to other places of interest in Europe and the Middle East. I would love to visit her, but honestly I hate flying and it's a long trip from the west coast USA (19 hours!).

Israel is amazing! It is a land like no other, filled with people who all think they are your mother - and treat you that way! With its beautiful views, incredibly varied topography, Middle-Eastern cuisine, colorful people and culture, incredible attractions - old and new, spectacular hikes, - I wouldn't want to live anywhere else! I'm so enamored with Israel that I wrote a book detailing our first year in this blessed land. It is MOVING UP: An Aliyah Journal and it can be seen at www.aliyahbook.com.

It is the most inspirational place to go. The old city of Jerusalem I could go to, and never leave.
The farms and groves in the Golan Heights and parts of the West Bank are the most beautiful in the world. I could not believe the beauty. The history is overwhelming.
The people? Well----------I find the Sephardim and Mizrahim to be fabulous people. I do think the Ashkenazim are often rude and brash. I guess they are not so use to Mideastern and Mediterranean etiquette and hospitality.
