Not to sound like a freak, but the pain is part of the experience. Any measure you take to AVOID the pain, only cheats you out of membership in the global tat community. Your body will overload you with endorphins and seritonin and dopamine, you will get a very good natural buzz. It's amazing. I only have one tattoo, but I will never forget the high that accompanied the buzzing of the needle. Whatever you do, DONT DRINK ALCOHOL!! Also don't get high. Face this thing head on, take a friend and get lots of pictures. Make sure the tat place is clean and adheres to proper hygiene standards.

only the first 15-20 minutes will hurt, ( the outline) after that its a piece of cake, just dont think about it. make sure your tattoo artist is a friendly one so you can hold a conversation about something totally random. one big tip, DO NOT look @ the needle before or during the process, I have 4 tattoos and to this day i dont kno what the needle looks like, chew some gum, read a book, listen to music, all these help. once its over its over, unlike a piercing u dont have to constantly clean it and bother it, jus lotion it. no more pain!!!

nicely, for one difficulty, the soreness of having a tattoo isn't something like each and every variety of soreness linked with surgical technique. extra like an demanding, scratchy-burning feeling. not undesirable, basically demanding. I won't lie, at cases, it may get to be somewhat painful. yet, you may basically tell your artist which you extremely want a 5 minute destroy while it gets to be too lots. Then, you get lower back to it. not undesirable. in case you're extremely worried, ask your artist in case you may are available in and watch somebody's consultation. you will desire to be mushy sufficient around your artist which you will desire to be waiting to ask and try this. in case you're actually not mushy or they're unwilling, bypass someplace else. Btw, basically make certain you specifically check out the portfolio of the artist you decide on and that they use very almost surgical cleanliness. Sterile packaging for the needles, gloves, sparkling shop, the completed 9 yards.

Eat a decent meal before you go so you don't faint if the pain is overwhelming for you. Take a few Motrin or Midol as well, I've used both and they help a bit, but its a tattoo and the pain is part of it.

It won't be as bad as you are anticipating it to be. Just relax and try to keep your mind off of it, take deep breaths and you'll be fine.

The pain will depend on your sensitivity level and pain tolerance. Well, and if the artist has a heavy hand or not. Just go in well rested and in a good mood with a friend to chat with and draw your attention away from that sound!

Tips :
don't drink or take any drugs ( if it is a descent place, they won't work on you if you in any kind of bad shape)
bring someone with you so you can hold there hand ( or bite them, if your that close....lol) and if you need to tell the guy to stop every so often so you can recompose yourself
I had mine on my lower back and I felt as If i was going to pass out, but before I even got it I talked to the guy and got a good vibe from him, and asked if he would be OK stopping every few mins cause I am wuss and need to gather myself
and he actually only had to stop 4 times and it was done in 45 mins he said he thought it was gonna take alot longer
and the pain after, aspirin Tylenol or Motrin but try to be sparing you don't want your blood to thin ...

You may not like this answer but check it out. Remember what things are like as a fad? You, if you don't get a Tat, will be the new breed of people, you will be so ahead of the curve, even models that get tats do have them removed, I have one I got a few years back on my back left shoulder. Now i am saving money to remove it, just because it reminds me of an advertisement, like being me is not enough. I resent I gave in to fitting in. If you want to be different, try putting money aside and saving up for a 5,000.00 portfolio in Scottrade. Now that is doing something like not too many people. I think the new movement is on self, and nothing is better than something green.

bring ur ipod and a giant cuddly stuffed animal. ridiculous as it may look while ur bent over no one can see oyur face and its something to bite/scream into over the pain if it gets real bad. im a wuss and i work in a shop so i have plenty of stick about doing this, but theres been more than one girl who was glad for the giant carebear i keep in the car. that and the ipod will keep your mind focused on the music (make sure its stuff u can mentally sing along to) that or bring friends/family)

I got my one and only tattoo on my hip on my honeymoon 7 years ago, and the pain was tolerable for the following reasons. Tell yourself you can handle it. When the artist is applying the tattoo, focus on one object and think of someone dear to you who will take all of the pain for you. It sounds dumb, but it works. Mind over matter!

Relax, Don't be afraid to ask the tattoo artist for a break, bring gatorade incase you feel dizzy, and some chocolate, also bringing a friend along to look out for you is always good!
