Yes, you can lose weight this way. An average loss of .5-1 lb per week is a good goal, but you may lose more at first. Make sure you drink your water- at least 64 oz per day, more if you drink soda or alcohol.

It's possible -- IF YOU REMEMBER this basic principle: to loose weight you must burn more calories than you consume. If you eat an obscene amount of Special-K, it won't help you. Also please remember, that ALL of the nutrients your body needs is are not found in Special-K alone. A good balanced diet, without unneeded calories is best. Even with the chicken or turkey, some nice vegetable dish (minus the butter sauce or cheese sauce) would be good.
Water would be a good drink for you while on this diet.

it doesn't matter what you eat, it is how MUCH you eat. If you ate 20 bowls of cereal a day you would gain weight. Count calories and eat low fat, and aim to lose 1-2 pounds per week... that's what is safe. also, your body doesn't slowly decline constantly... it will decline for a while, then plateau, then decline, then plateau... don't get discouraged at the plateaus, that is your body protecting you from losing weight too quickly and harming your organs.
figure out how many calories you would need to maintain your current weight and eat less than that. 3000 calories = a pound, so if you eat, over the course of a week, 6000 calories less than you need to maintain your weight, you will lose 2 pounds.
