My almost six month old Chihuahua is displaying strange behaviour, she had a little bit of diarrhea today and was very upset at her own behaviour as she is already toilet trained. This evening she has wanted constant cuddles, and her tail is all the way between her legs and flattened. I am really worried about this change in a normally happy and active girl. Could this be heat coming on, or should I be more worried?

My dogs get very "needy" when they think they have done something wrong. She needs your reassurance that you still love her. If she had a little diarrhea she might be feeling kind of icky, and just need extra love. Give her a day or too (hopefully without any more tummy problems) to snap out of it. Another thing - dogs can sense storms before we see or hear them, and it is winter. If there was a storm that could be the issue, or fireworks for new years. Hope she feels better.

My 9mo BC cross had the same problem at 7 months. He had actually come into contact with another dog with a virus and although he is vaccinated, he had contracted it. I took him to my vet when his symptoms didn't get any better after 24 hours and was given antibiotics to treat hom. I recommend taking her to the vet, even if it isn't serious at least the vet can tell you what to do to avoid it happening again. No one should try to self analyse their pets as an incorrect diagnosis can cause severe problems for your pet. ALWAYS SEE YOUR VETERINARIAN!!! I can't emphasise that enough. All animals need to be wormed regularly, and diarreah is almost always a symptom of that, but still see your vet as it could be an allergic reaction to something, the virus I mentioned before, could even be an insect or spider bite the vet can tell you what it is, and will never laugh at you for being concerned for your pets welfare.

I'd give her a day or two, I have one also and she is so sweet she has also acted funny before, they are also good little actors, but having an upset tummy could mean she's sick. If she still acts this way after a day or two I'd take her to the vet. She could be sick or just wanting more attention. don't panic just watch her good.

Usually this is a sign of the dog being in fear of something, if it is not better in a couple of days or the signs get worse, take your dog to the vet for a check up.

if you have another dog, she is probably scared so much that she has become sick. or she could just be scared to the point of sickness. it could also be something more serious and u should take her to the vet anyway, just to make sure.

Be more worried. It's serious, but easily fixable. I know it sounds gross, but check her poop. There are probably worms in it. You can cure this with pills that you hide in her food.
She's embarrassed because she has absolutely no control until it's fixed.
