You can love anyone (your dog, mom, dad, siblings, neighbor, best friend), but you will only feel the true strong love for one person, most of the time your significent other, your soul mate, your husband or wife, girlfriend or boyfriend.

the differernce is like day and night, when i love someone, there is nothing on this earth that can change alter or take away from that being a true statement, i love you is a constant, never changing, that will never go away, be it for your parents your child your spouse or a friend, you get it on you and you never can get it off, now to say to someone, i am in love with you, the expression may feel genuine but it has a physics to it, as there is an up and a down, there is also an in and an out, to be in love with someone, leaves an opposite reaction to being out of love with this someone, that being true, was it really love that was there or more likely a feeling of like, lust or just plain ol horrnyness, too many times you hear i fell out of love with them, a geniune feeling yes, but not the same as i love you, which is a never ending feeling state of being for someone, and many times you hear the two said in a relationship, confusing as helll i know, so dont be fooled by the saying, im in love with you to equal or mean the same as i love you, the two are day and night, i love you - doesnt care what time it is, i am in love with you - will be checking their watches looking for a better opportunity to come along, think back and see if that isnt true, and sure enought they fell out of love with you and into love with someone else, so know the difference that they are not the same, never have and never will be the same.........

HAND have a nice day!!!

Confusion. Love is caring about another person as much (or more) as you care for yourself. If a b/f or g/f says this and thinks it means something different then they are just in love with the idea they have of who you could be to them. Be careful.

I think there is a big difference. I love you can be the love you have toward a parent, sibling, friend. Being "in love" is more of a passionate love like for a boyfriend or girlfriend, lover, or spouse.

my take is that these are opposites:

I LOVE YOU comes from a position of strength. It is selfless, for the other person. It is calm and can never hurt you. It flows from within to without.

I AM IN LOVE WITH YOU comes from a position of need. it is for yourself. It is excited, frantic, unstable. It is trying to make you happy from without.

The feelings we have for someone are usually somewhere in between. It is a matter of what kind of energy we want to base a relationship on.

I think " I love you " is something that could be said to a family member or friend ( boy or girl friend ) but " I'm in love with you " takes on a whole new meaning they have extremely strong feelings for you and also a special place in their heart for you

Huge difference, i love you means that u care for them, and hope to know them for a long time, if nothing better fills up your time..., that's something you feel for family members... Now I'm in love with you means you have the greatest of all care for them, that their happiness is your happiness, and you want to spend the rest of your life with them, something you tell u wife, or your girlfriend.
