Placebo effect. Your conscious knows it is "better" so your sub-conscious assumes that it's effect will be greater. I have seen people become drunk on non-alcoholic beer and stoned on non-intoxicating pills.
It's all in your mind.

As a big time whisky drinker, i disagree. Cheap or expensive will get you equally pished. But you do get less of a hangover with the quality stuff.


What I will say, is that single malts seem to get you drunk in a more pleasant way that cheap blended grains. But i think this is down to the impurities, nothing more.

The effect of the alcohol is the same. However the experience of drinking good whisky is far more enjoyable. You should find that hangovers are less severe after drinking a good malt.

You will still get a hangover, but with some good single malt scotch, it will be a quality hangover!
