There are a variety of gas permeable lens materials available. Some are only a little better then the old fashioned hard lenses that were made of perspex. This material lasted for many years before needing replacing but severely restricted oxygen to the cornea.

Gas permeable lenses were developed by adding fluro-silicates to the perspex. This allowed the eye to breathe, but this had disadvantages; the lens was more prone to scratching, flexure & deposits from your tear film. This reduces the life of the lens.

However, by looking after the lenses properly & having regular after care check ups, I find most people can expect their lenses to last 2 years.

In the USA, I was instructed to discard my soft contact lenses after 3 months of daily wear, or up to a year of irregular wear.

If you mean gas permeable 'hard' lenses, they have a longer life, so long as you follow the cleaning and maintenance protocols METICULOUSLY.

When in doubt, call any place where you could buy the things, and ask.

I had one pair that lasted for 5 years. I cleaned them every day as instructed. I got lazy with the next pair. They only lasted a year.

RGP lenses do not really age out.
Take care of them, go for 6 monthly check-up. They may last you over 5 years without a change.
