the answer is very simple - pure ignorance.
you should feel sorry for this person as they obviously haven't been fortunate enough to have met any Italians, if they had they couldn't help but like them, and they are obviously without any compassion to make any comment about anyones disabilities.
What a sad, bitter and angry person this must be, you should really pity him/her because they can't be leading a very happy life can they
I would treat the comment about you being an unemployed labout with the disdain it deserves. Do not sink to their level by responding in any way - they will soon get fed up of making such futile remarks when they see it is not having any effect on you

This person seriously has never experienced any of these that you have stated, ie mental illness, italians ect.
The person in question has no moral values what so ever, and just open there mouth and let there belly rumble, what out even thinking.
Unfortantely there is people out there like that, my advice to you is stay away, and don't listen as this person does not sound like a good peson, and you are and it is clearly upsetting you.

for sure you cant take anything this person says to heart.. people are people..some good some bad.. just stay away from the bad ones.
