Just seems gross and germy, to me. People cover their mouths when they cough for a reason - to stop spreading spit, which transmits all your icky fluid-borne diseases. I don't wanna read a book after someone puts their spit on it!

P S Sure I do, I'm just picky about who I share bodily fluids with!

Yes. You can turn the page without doing that. It was so disgusting last time I was at the doctor's. This lady sitting next to me was reading a magazine and was licking her fingers to turn the pages. Then, her name was called and she put it back in the little magazine basket. I was so shocked to see that. I had thought the magazine was hers. Plus, she was at the doc's for a reason. She probably had the flu or something. Good to know she just passed it to anybody else who wanted to read it.

I used to have a job that dealt with cash tips. At the end of the shift I always had this manager who would count my money (thankfully after I had already added it up) and when she got to the cash she would lick her finger FOR EVERY BILL! I've got to think that dollar bills are WAY MORE germy than a book because they get so much more circulation. Think of how many strangers germs she was putting into her mouth! Yes, whether it's books or money or anything else, licking your fingers is totally disgusting!

Yes! That is revolting! I had a 5th grade teacher who did that. The desks were arranged in groups of 4 and every time she passed out papers we'd fight for the very bottom page because that one had the least spit.

People have germs on their hands whether they lick their fingers or not. Touching money, doorknobs, toilet flush handles (ew... I always use my shoe), ATM buttons... anything that lots of people come in contact with puts more germs on your hands. A tiny bit of saliva on book pages doesn't worry me. The gross part is seeing people put their dirty fingers in their mouths!

I had an instructor at university once who refused to lick her fingers to grab pages. Instead she blew on the pages to separate them. It was kind of funny.

Sorry, I'm guilty of it too.
I thinks it's gross too but what else do you do to turn the page?
Do you carry one of those things from the bank teller with you?
I'm pretty sure the saliva only has a life of like two minutes, so don't worry!
Enjoy your reading!

If you find it revolting and it is. I would suggest that you donate the finger dampener containers to libraries all over, to adorn their tables. Offer ones to the people that disgust you the most by doing this in front of you. Possibly suggest it to librarians.

Saliva has natural antibacterial components, and its only a little bit. It's not that gross. People fail to realize that germs are EVERYWHERE. they are crawling all over your skin right now. And what kind of fluid borne virus do you get from touching saliva?

What about library books and all the readers who turned the pages, in one way or another, before you? If you're that fussy, buy a fingerette.

I agree with you. When they lick their fingers they are putting bacteria from their mouths onto the pages. I sure hope its their own personal book and not one from the library. lol

i find that gross too. considering that one can get gastric flu by just touching a doorknob with the virus, you'll never know what germs you can catch from that germ tainted book.

had an ex who did that. real gross, had to stop him from spreading his dna all over my book.
