I had a cavity filled in a back molar a couple years ago (I can't remember how many, at least four). It's never bothered me since but recently it's been hurting again and is really sensitive (especially when I eat sweet food) now. I got my braces off a few days ago and there was a bracket glued on top of the filled cavity and it's been even more sensitive since. Has anyone had a similar thing happen to them? I know I should see a dentist about it but if I schedule an appointment I'll have to wait weeks before I can actually see someone. Thanks in advance!

My recommendation is make that appointment with your dentist and get it looked at. Sometimes you can get cavities in teeth that already have fillings in them, or there may be another reason, such as the filling has loosened. Your dentist is your best answer for this one.

I had that happen with a filling after about 10 years. It was a large filling in a top molar and it eventually fell out. I never had braces, so I don't know about all that. I would ask them why the bracket was glued to the top of a filling though. That sounds strange. The dentist will probably never admit any mistakes, but maybe they will get you into the office sooner if you mention it over the phone.

If you can get a hold of any codeine, it's great for tooth pain. If not, use something with ibuprofen in it. Get some toothpaste for sensitive teeth and get some anti-biotic (or something like that) mouthwash to fight off infection. Hopefully that will help you until you can see the dentist. Feel better......

Sounds like you've got more decay under the filling - apparently with amalgam fillings over time they can shrink and create tiny gaps between the filling and your tooth, which allows bacteria to get in and starts the decay process all over again. The fact that you've got sensitivity when you eat sweet foods is almost a guarantee that you've got a cavity. You need to get a dentist appointment to get the tooth looked at - likely they'll remove the old filling and any new decay, then put in a new fillings for you. Good luck!

The filling has dried out and shrunk causing a leak into the root area. Or they could have cracked it when removing your braces.

Get to the Dentist for a cleaning and get it replaced. There is a wax in the dental sections of stores you can get to fill the space temporarily.

If I remember correctly my kids teeth were sensitive after having their braces removed. Get some of the special toothpaste for sensitive teeth.

Aww, I'm no expert on this, I just wanted to say how sorry I feel for you:( If the dentist have done something wrong to your teeth, you shouldn't really pay for getting it reexamined, but that's just my opinion. Have the dentist taken good picture of the teeth, also the root canal in case there are some problems there? Maybe the teeth are sensitive if the fillings are close to the root canal. I really hope this works out for you!

Most dentists will see you sooner if you have pain or an emergency. I'd say you either have decay under that filling or the tooth might be cracked. Either way, it will need to be filled again.
