torrent and P2P (peer-to-peer) are like brother and sister. They are both the same.

How to use them? It depends on how they are programmed.
Purpose? To download applications and other programs you have in mind.

they are both p2p, which means peer to peer sharing. All you need to use them is an internet connection and a client program. For torrents something like Utorrent. For straight p2p, something like limewire.

I don't know about torrent but P2P is a file sharing protocol. It allows you to share files with other users on the web.
