In a small county in Ca the local police performed steady DWI checkpoints, this "test" when on for almosta month. Despite the long hours and thousands of arrest made by this program the DWI accidents dropped by almost 70%.
Although an efficient program it was very costly to the Dep man hours and OT, but it proved a very good point.....it CAN be done.

DWI check points.. Do they really help?
They are unconstitutional.
The state of Massachusetts tried the check point system to locate people Driving under the influence.
The State Supreme Court ruled in Favor of the People. The Check points were deemed a violation of civil rights and the Police had NO probable cause to stop a vehicle with out reason.
I do not drink and drive at all....I use a designated driver of take a limousine or a Taxi.
No one should be subjected to Illegal search and seizure.
I do not know know your age or where you live....But, I assure you.....Your freedoms are being taken away every day. One day soon, you may need a Visa to visit your boyfriend in the next town.
Study the History of Germany in the 30s...the People gave the Leaders all the Power that they needed......and the rest of the story is History.

Arguably they are. And the SC has held them to be legal.
What frosts my nuts locally (SW Missouri) is that some PDs use civilians to run the preliminary checks. There's NO WAY that I'm showing my license to a civvy! Then the cops come over and hassle you about being "uncooperative" and then want to search your car. Fat chance without a warrant or probable cause, ossifer!

Every year here in FL... The cops save countless lives and arrest hundreds of drunks. I think it's something that every state should do all the time, not just on holidays, but random days in a month as well.. Thanks to all the police for making sure people like me make it home.

Yes they do. Many people drinking and driving have been pulled off the road by DWI checkpoints.
