I'm writing a story where one of the characters gets a moped for Christmas. What would the person giving him the gift tell him that he needs to do to drive it? (legalities) The boy getting the gift is 17 and has a class c driver's license.

To ride it on the street a motorcycle license is required in most states you would have to call your local drivers bureau.

Get it registered by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Check with DMV to see if you need a motorcycle license too. I don't think its smart for 17 year olds to be driving a moped but I guess it depends where you live.

as quickly as you have your license and id come back with the aid of, you bypass to a education centre and take a CBT (vital common education). Then, purchase your motorbike, get it insured and taxed and your waiting. in the experience that your figuring out to purchase a moped from new, you have a tempoary tax disc for 14 days, after that, you %. up the disc from the place ever you bourght the motorbike from you "learn" to journey once you're doing the CBT (I found out the thank you to journey one as quickly as I took mine and that i surpassed the comparable day)
