This very same thing has been my problem lately also, but I didn't even think it was a sign of the times. I just had a very difficult year. I broke my right wrist, and I am an artist, my mother died, and I have hardly no income now and had to move into a little apartment from a huge house. It just got harder and harder to pray because I felt life's events are weighing me down. I had a time once before when I couldn't pray but the Lord was teaching me a lesson and He lifted me out of it. The worst thing is that I have a ministry of praying for others and when I can't pray for the matters in my own life it makes me feel inadequate to pray for others. But it was mentioned above that Jesus will never leave nor forsake us, so lets just continue to persevere through this wilderness and continue to pray. Perhaps if we pray for each other it would be a good start and show that old devil that his tactics don't work and have actually backfired on him. Nomatter how far from God we feel just remember we walk by faith and not by our feelings or emotions. Faith is what is growing in us at these times. Just hang in there , with me, and you will see, the Lord will let you feel His presence again.

I have no idea if there is a God or not, but I do know that God pays no attention to prayer. Even when entire congregations pray for someone's health it has no effect. This has been shown in various experiments, yet still the myth persists that God will somehow set aside the normal laws of the universe if you pray. There are spontaneous healings, but these happen just as often to people who are not prayed over. There may be a few people with the knack, but in general nothing happens.
“God is 100% reliable. You can count on God.” Given that prayer has no measurable effect, it would seem more truthful to say God is not amenable to human persuasion. If He exists, he clearly prefers not to intervene in the petty troubles of humans, or he has already decided what is best.

You may have a point there.
Christianity has nothing for the heart and is purely a "head" religion and the Satan is at work in your head because Jesus was the crucified thief on the left and on the right of Simon, and the Bible says "he that is hanged is accursed of God" and the breaking of the legs of the victim of crucifixion is the hanging.
Christians cannot see what the Bible conceals between the lines because Satan possesses the Christian reader and blinds him/her from the truth.
Read The Age Of Reason (www.Xlibris.com) and let it take you through your Bible and show you the Jesus and the Christ and "The Only True God" of John 17:3 and open your eyes to the secret that the Bible holds.

Thank you! Yes, I too feel this. I've wondered why I have felt as though I were going through the motions and only my faith sustains me.
You are not alone and I believe this is a sign of the times. As the climate grows evermore hostile to Christ and His teaching, as the media grows evermore arrogant and offensive in displaying their mockery of God and morals, the world becomes a darker place and to hang onto your faith is a great test in these times.
If you pray and you hold on, even though you do not have the easy feelings, you will be rewarded. It is not easy and somehow you feel as though you are barely even holding on to the hem of Christ's garment.
No, God has not taken the holy spirit away, this is like the dark night of the soul. Even the Saints have experienced this, but they did not live in these times. So imagine how it is for us?
But we must not be deluded by feelings, or Satan wishing to drain us further, it is honestly by faith alone and it'll get harder still. I don't know how much worse it has to get, but I don't know about you, I do not wish to give into this world. It's a rotten shallow offering and is the opposite of Christ.
Remember too, Satan is the prince of this world. Is it any wonder, that in these times, when he is at the peak of his reign that we should feel weighted down? You are his enemy and you will not be popular at all. Anybody who believes in Christ these days will cop it, either from ridicule, indifference or hate.
Blessed are those who persist to the end!

I identify with your thoughts.
I've recently noticed that setting a specific time for worshipping God doesn't work very well because I still care more about all the things I have to do than spending time with the All Mighty Creator. I'm selfish, and distracted.
I've recently concluded that if I continue to insist on this half-way worship in study and prayer, I might as well do my best to focus during that time, and remember and communicate, etc., with God for the entire day, whenever I remember to do so.
I'm still working to remove the distractions and get to know God better.

Yah, I've felt a bit dry, but I don't think it's any different than any other time in history. Satan with always be trying to steal our joy. I want to encourage you though. If you feel that you're going though a dry time, just hold on cause you know you love Jesus. And I want to encourage you as well with this...The bible says that the Lord lives in the praises of his people....so try this. Don't ask the Lord for anything, just praise him over and over. Hallelujah, which means praise the Lord ( and is said the same in every language, just a little info for you). See if the Lord won't spark something in your heart.
And one last thing....remember that dry wood is the easiest to ignite :)

Prayer has been the weak point in my faith. In 2002 my first girlfriend and I would pray every night at the same time that God would let us be together, but despite all our earnest prayers she suddenly at the end of that year...... I've always kinda though - if praying for the major things in life are not answered in the way I want, what point is there in praying for the little things I can handle on my own? But thats just me and I wish it wasn't that way - as I said its the weak point in my faith.

Things to remember:
Jesus said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" He doesn't lie.
Prayer or communion with God should become as natural as breathing. Keep your eyes on things above, not on this world.
When you find yourself wavering, Focus on Christ, the author and perfecter of your faith.
Remember, God is totally sovereign, nothing happens that He has not caused or allowed. If you are feeling some heat, stand like a man of God, remember who you are in Christ, an adopted son of God, an heir to the inheritance, a royal priesthood, a member of a called out people, one of the elect. God chose you out of grace and love, and will not let you go. You are His, for eternity.
Stand strong, resist Satan, and He will flee from you. As the battle intensifies, steel yourself, draw your sword of the word and use it. Be the man of God that He designed you to be.

I felt a lot like that this past year, but God stayed with me, He loved me all the way. Don't give Him up and you'll be ok. If you give Him up, however, then you'll end up feelig there's something missing.
What do you do? Pray even more. Read the Bible when it seems like the things of this world get you down. I used to read to myself Isaiah 54, it brought me plenty of comfort. Don't get me wrong when I say don't give God up. The thought occurred to me many times, and there was something in me that wouldn't let go. I'm not just saying it, as someone who hasn't felt that too. I've been there. What helps? God helps. Seek Him and live by faith, and you'll get by.

I am a relatively new Christian and I try to put some time aside every day to pray, I know when you get busy it is easy to get carried away in the worldly things and forget, alas God forgives us that's how He is, so don't worry as long as you try to walk in Jesus' footsteps and be loving and kind to your fellow humans. When times are bad we pray more and when times are good we tend to forget about God a bit, but I'm sure you are doing fine, don't be so hard on yourself. God bless you
