My kitten is 10 months old, and roams the house crying each night. I make sure he has plenty of water/food/clean litter/toys, but he whines like he is emotionally sad. What can I do to help him calm down, and give me a full night sleep?

Edit: He is neutered, and has a companion kitten- his litter mate brother. His brother sleeps well through the night, and both kittens are on and off again active throughout the day.

Best way to wear out kitty before bed is with a Lazer pointer. You don't have to do much and the cat will go nuts over it. A good 15 minutes and he'll be one tired kitty. A cat tower might help out as well, He can rip snort up and down that all night and more than likely not bother you too much with it. don't worry too much about it unless you really can't sleep at night. If that's the case, shove both of them out of your room, the one won't like you for it, but maybe they will play at night with each other then. As for it changing, well, it might or it might not, the litter mate has already proven he is the calmer one and you don't often get more than one in a litter like that. Try getting a well covered fish tank that the cats can't knock over or get into. Watching goldfish could keep him entertained as well.

It is most likely a kitten stage. They are active at night and when he has nothing to do he will whine. Try getting him some toys to play with or a cat tree. If you can, get him a play mate! Fixing him wont really help, he may still resort back to the behavior, but it is still a very good idea health wise. Longer, Happier, Healthier life.

Play a lot with him in the afternoon and evening, and don't let him sleep much during the day, so that he'll be tired at night. Also, feed him before you go to bed, and encourage him to sleep with you, in order to follow your schedule. Finally, wait, because my cat was like this when he was at that age, but now he sleeps the same hours as I do. Cats are nocturnal, but they learn to adjust. Kittens at that age are very lively, he will soon become a bored fat cat lying around all day and night (he he).

ok, heres the deal. is your cat fixed? that might be a good thing to do. he probably craves attention from you or he want to have some partner with him, but BEWARE! alot of cats do not get along with another. i have a question for you, does he sleep through the day? if he does, try hard by waking him and keep him up through-out the day. if you can manage that, his schedual will get back on track and he will be tired at night. then you shall be back in peace!

Since he is neutered, maybe getting him a female companion would be nice. I know he would like that. He is probably just lonely and wants some companionship. Since he is neutered, you don't have to worry about any kittens either. Happy New Year! I hope this helps.

Don't let him go to sleep during the day and sleep with him at night, cats like to sleep near the head and you get used to it after a while.

i'm guessing you have a kitten or a youthful cat. they're nocturnal, that's what they do. My cat used to run up and down my physique, up and down drapes and almost up the wall at night so i think your soreness. do not sedate her yet to your sake i could shop her out of the mattress room section. As she gets older she'll quiet down some.

You can get him a play mate, cats are happier with one. You can also place him in a bathroom with a night light, place him in one of those kennels until he calms down too.
