Is this normal? I only bought her today, and this is her first night without her mum. Could this affect her playfulness? How do Cocker Spaniel pups usually react to their first night in a new house? I know puppies sleep alot, but I'm just wondering whether it's normal or if she's sick.

Thanks for your replies. She's perked up a bit now, so I'm fairly sure everything is OK.
She has been to the vet, and he said she was OK, but you never know when something is missed. I took my last dog to the vet three times before she was diagnosed with Addison's and by then it was too late. :(

its normal, puppies sleep a lot. don't worry! just be sure she eats her meals and drinks enough water. when she wakes up, play with her (like tickle her and roll a SMALL ball to her gently -or she may get a fright instead- and so on, don't expect her to do too much yet!), that would encourage her to stay up. :)
in addition, she may not like, say, walk "correctly" for a few weeks or even months. it includes phenomenon such as her not walking straight, as if she's drunk. puppies have to learn to walk too. but if this continues even after 6 months, you have to bring her for a check up. hope this helps!

[additional info] oh i see. you know, if you requested for a full check-up for your pet and it took him/her 3 visits to find the problem, i'm quite sure the vet wasn't careful enough, that's why he/she missed spotting the problem for your previous pet. i suggest that you find another vet whose more professional. :)

Its a must that you bring your new puppy to the vet for a full check-up . Your vet will confirm if you're puppy is healthy and what needs to be done and schedule shots and stuff.

On the sleeping problem, not to worry. Puppies usually sleep a lot. I don't know specifically about Cocker Spaniel pups but puppies i bought before used to cry a lot if left alone so I just bring it to my room to sleep with me =)

Hope this helps.

My canines loves the water and since the the two one human beings began ingesting the water we have not considered a doctor for over 2 years. Now we are the two taking area in existence. It makes on the grounds that we are seventy 5% water not seventy 5% drugs.

It is completly normal sweetie puppies will sleep most of the day at that age. As they get older they will get more active. No need to worry, just make sure she eats and drinks and you should be fine.

She's a baby and babies sleep alot...just let her be. She will miss her mum at first of course but that will soon pass. Give her a bed where ever that may be and let her make it her own space. She's not sick so don't worry.

Try giving he a stuffed animal that is bigger than her so she can cuddle with it and have it as a mock mom. also stay around with her. not in her face just in the room if you can. whether it be while you are cleaning or watching TV. if she shows intrest in playing, play!
