Parental responsibility Is it's legal term I have it for my daughters, i'm sorry to say but you need a solicitor unless your ex will agree to you having it, if she does not agree to that then a solicitor will gaurantee that you get it.

you really do need to see a solicitor, cut back on other things, have you even asked if your eligable for legal aid ? If you have and your not then you need to cut back on other stuff, like beer, stay in on a Friday night the money you save could go towards your legal fees, get rid of some of the channels on your TV you can't possibly watch them all, try shopping somewhere different, smaller with not as much choice. Dont leave lights on or stuff on stand by, if you want to see your son you'll do whatever it takes.

Alot depends on the situation of when your son was born, if you are in the UK and your son was born and at that time you were married to his mother then you have joint parental responsibility to your son and rights to see him, unfortunatley the law is not so much on the side (so to speak) for fathers of out of wedlock births, my ex brotherin law had a enourmous battle through the courts to see his daughter (not born in wedlock) it cost him a fortune and he lost. Sorry this may not be what you want to hear - best advise is go to the citizens advice peolpe and im sure they will be able to point you in the right direction. I also recall my ex brotherinlaw saying that there are "fathers rights" website on the net - but im not sure of the web address

If you were married at the time of his birth, you have automatic parental responsibility and parental rights, also if your name appears on birth cert. there is nothing stopping you contacting his school and making yourself known to them. Explain that your ex is being awkward and that you wish to take an interest in his education. You can then meet his teacher and get reports, go to concerts etc. Not great but better than nothing, it also gives you a better chance if you ever do get to court, you can show you've tried to be involved. Good luck.

I do not mean to seem mean but If you can not afford a lawyer how do you plan to care for the child. The mother should let you see and or take care of the child regardless of being. The child needs a father all children do.

Have you asked your ex why she willnot allow either of these? before running to a solicitor ask her for her reasons and see if you can allay any concerns that she might have. What is she afraid of? Tell her to be specific. then come back and ask the question again.

YOU JUST DONT FIND GUYS OUT THERE ANY MORE WHO WANT TO BE INVOLVED AND WELL A JUDGE SEES THAT AND YOU WANT TO BE THERE FOR YOUR SON AND IM SURE THE JUDGE WILL COURT ORDER IT!! GOOD LUCK AND AT LEAST IM PROUD OF YOU FOR WANTING AND BEING THERE FOR AS MUCH AS YOU CAN AND YOUR EX WILL LET YOU
