All cases are different.
Each parent needs to make up their minds.
I can't imagine the distress that the parents go through.
Thus I can't judge when parents make the decision and things go bad.

They wouldn't lead any kind of an enjoyable life conjoined. Take the chance and separate them so they will be able to live some sort of a normal life. If one or both dies at least they don't have to go on as some sort of freak show for people to stare and point at.
