I get the feeling of a lack of identity like there is nothing solid to me, like i am just a set of disconnected thoughts and contradictory feelings with no feeling of there been a self beneath it.

I wake up feeling that I have to build the self I built up the day before from scratch.

Yes Blakefabian that is a good way of describing it. Also like I am a ship constantly drifting wherever the wind blows it, with no anchor.

I see a therapist but when I mention it he just skirts round the issue and doesn't adress it, I don't think he knows where I'm coming from.

I would say you were probably suffering from depression. Please go and see your doctor.

I DO know what you are talking about. I was diagnosed with borderline personality a long time ago. It is a dissociative disorder. All of the dissociative disorders are thought to be caused from severe trauma. It is a natural coping mechanism - the person literally dissociates himself from a situation or experience that is too traumatic to deal with in their everyday life. There is a broad spectrum of these disorders which can include post-traumatic stress and even multiple personality disorder. You would really need to talk to a professional to find out what level of dissociation you are experiencing. I can tell you this - I was really self-destructive for many years when I felt so disconnected, but things can get so much better. I went to a support group, got on medication, and got some individual counseling as well. If you do get diagnosed with something, it doesn't mean you are doomed to stay that way. I know if I could recover, anyone can. Please take care....

You sound like a teenager, and that age many teens feel that way. The very fact that you have written here has asserted your identity. You need to focus on your goals. Look at yourself, see what you can do, do not look at others. Be bold, assert youself, and aim to be the person you wanted to be.
However never look at failure to be a negative, look at it as a learning circle.
You are who you are a wonderful creation. Life is there to live not to stress, and whatever hardship comes your way is a test. You can either handle it or not, but if you fail, there is only one way to succeed. Be STRONG.

I can sort of see where you are coming from. Like the building block you put everything on disappeared overnight, and your construction came crashing down. My only advice would be to see a therapist about your issue. I don't know if it’s a mental disorder. You might just be physically sick.

Your doctor is probably skirting around the issue because he is not familiar with dissociative disorders. I would try to find a new psychiatrist/medical doctor and a counselor (preferably a psychologist) that is familiar with dissociative disorders.

i have borderline personality disorder and the feelings you describe sound so familiar to me, try going to you doctor to get some help, before things get out of control because you dont want to end up like i did, on sections in hospital not understanding what is happening to you. i wont say pull yourself together cause i know it doesnt work like like that.

Based on what little I remember from college, it sounds more like dissociative disorder (akin to schizophrenia) than borderline disorder. But you should probably consult someone who actually knows this stuff.

See a doctor that will refer you to a professional. You don't deserve to deal with this, you can get help. No one else could evaluate your condition here.

I think you need to change your therapist - find one that DOES help you to address the 'real' issues. Good luck x
