Do you think a U.S. soldier would assassinate a president if ordered to by superiors?

I am wondering if a U.S. soldier would assassinate a president if he/she were ordered to by the military/industrial complex, which is made up of big business, generals, and politicians.

Where did you get the idea that the military is made up of big business, and politicians. My son is in the military, and he is not a general, and has never worked for big business, or met a politician. Today's military is made up of hard working intelligent, patriots that volunteered to make a difference. The only part of this question that has any accuracy is yes there are generals who issue orders, but everyone of them had to go through Boot Camp and follow a chain of command that ends with the President as Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces. Unlike John Kerry I have faith that our soldiers are not stupid enough to blindly commit treason on an order.

That depends on the person.

If you mean offically, because he was ordered to? No, simply because the President is the commander in chief, and therefore has the highest military authority in the country. He could coutermand and order given by an military personnel.

If you mean unoffically, well, he'd have to get past the U.S. Secret Service, his fellow soldiers, and a lot of people who support the President. He'd have to have a DAMN good reason,
a lot of counter-programming (as basic training is, among other things, a large dose of "brainwashing" designed to instill loyalty and esprit de corps, and an unconditional reflex to obey the chain of command) and access to the President.

That being said, if it was easy, combined with the fact that every President had people who hated him passionately, wouldn't it have already happend?

So, no, I don't think so...and can you imagine the chaos if someone did? Not to mention:

President Richard Bruce Cheney?

Highly doubtful, the situation would have to be extreme to say the least. And even then a proper Soldier, Marine or Sailor would find it extremely difficult to follow that order without a high level of duress.

However Historically it has happened in other cultures. But predominantly to Tyrants and mad men like Nero.

No, I think the soldier would run to CNN and make a big news story out of it and make the military look stupid. I actually can't imagine "supperiors" being stupid enough to order that. Maybe in some third world country it could happen, but I don't think so in America.

That would be very unlikely. Reason is, soldiers take orders from a chain of command. In the US, the president is at the top of this chain of command (Commander-in-Chief) hence the reason we are in the 'sandbox'. Therefore, he would not put a hit on his own head. This answer ur question?

As a soldier, you are not to follow orders that are illegal or immoral. Assassinating the POTUS would fall into this category.

They only obey lawful orders. Killing the President would not be lawful and the trigger man will probably be in a lot of trouble along with everyone else.

Can't possibly happen. Soldiers are not mindless robots as so many seem to think. They can recongnize an illegal order if it slaps them in the face. An illegal order isn't an order at all, so you really have no premise for your question.

Hey for your info, some of the guys in the military do nothing but kill legally. This is their primary job.They are totally without conscience, or remorse. You don't think the government have such people?
