Hello Ryan,
It doesn't sound like you are really interested in military service.
I would suggest you check the AOPA.org web site to locate a local GA ( general aviation) airport with a CFI ( instructor ). Also, visit beapilot.com, you can download a one time discount coupon for an introductory flight. Most GA airports have a sign that says " learn to fly here ". Visit them, introduce yourself, talk with an instructor and ask for an intro flight. usually you will be in control of the plane ( with supervision of course ) right away. This will let you know if you have what it takes or if your dreams are misguided. Some airports will offer both ground school and flight training However, you could do the ground school on your own time via cd rom or dvd courses such as offered by sporty's or King schools.
After your intro flight, if you still want to fly, you will need a medical certificate you can locate the nearest AME (aviation medical examiner) from AOPA's web site. Talk to a few instructors from different airports to determine who you would feel most comfortable with both financial and physically. You will be spending a lot of time with an instructor in a small plane.
Best of Luck to you
Good Luck

Don't enlist in the Air National Guard and hope for a career in aviation. I was told that, when I enlisted, that there might be a Civil Service job for me at the local Guard Base. I was also told that I would have assistance when it came to paying for school.....so I enlisted. After a most wonderful stay in boot camp and tech school, I found out that there were no Civil Service job(s) coming my way. There were others my age that had enlisted when I did, but they had help from their relatives already on the inside and got the jobs. As for school assistance, it seems that I didn't qualify for that, either. So I went to school on my own, paid for it on myself, and found a job. Now I travel internationally inspecting wide body airliners and auditing maintenance vendor bases. I have been with the same company for almost 28 years now. The local Guard base may soon close. Moral: Go to school and get a license that is yours to keep.

I was in the Air National Guard for Six years. Getting a Pilot's position is very political. You really have to brown-nose your way into a pilot's slot. But, it's possible, I knew guys in the Guard who went in as enlisted, got a BA degree, got a good Civil Service position in the Guard, then moved up to pilot, it takes each person a few years to do all that, but it's possible.
I was also Active Duty Air Force for four years prior to the Guard, and I wish I had gone Guard and never wasted my time in the Actives.
GO GUARD!!!
Also, if you really want to be a pilot in the Guard, then you better make damn sure you have a Military Specialty that has you working very very close to a Squadron Commander or a Base Commander or in CBPO or in the Command Post, if you have an AFSC that causes you to work in a shop, you'll never ever ever ever get to be a pilot, unless you cross train yourself out of the shop and into a Commanders office

Joining the millitray is a good option, but you could end up in combat. I would reccomend checking into a pilot program in a local college or anywhere in the US. You can learn the same skills there and begin testing to be certified on larger commercial planes.

The earliest you can join in 17 with parental consent, other than that you will have to wait till you are 18. You are still a kid, enjoy it.

you will need your degree to become an officer to fly planes. then you will have to go to officer training school and pilot school. or you can just join active like the rest of us real military personnel.
