I recently bought a brand new side by side fridge with glass shelves. I put one of my dinner plates on one of the shelves and it has scratched the shelf. I didn't think that this would happen, upon closer inspection of my dinner setting, a part of the base is like unglazed pottery (this is the way the design is meant to be).
What can I do about the fridge? Do I have any rights in sending a letter to the fridge company (westinghouse) - I have checked the instruction manual and it gives no warning about what to put on the glass shelves. I would have thought that the glass wouldn't scratch easily or that it would have a coating on it... What can I do? Thanks

Common Sense would dictate that Glass,Rubbing On Glass Equals Scratches!
You may be able to exchange the shelf with the Retailer you purchased it from, but I do not anticipate a favorable outcome for you!

I would talk to the retailer, along the lines of - can I get a relpacement shelf and I accidentally scratched mine with a plate.
Who knows, a polite request and a smile can get amazing results.
Alternatively, it may be covered on your houshold insurance policy.
