Can someone tell me about public feet etiquette in the U.S? What's acceptable, what is not?

Wear shoes at all times in public. Some people might make you take off your shoes when you go into their homes, but that's to keep the carpet clean.

You should wear shoes when you are in public at all times. Your shoes should be neat, clean and polished where applicable. Flip flops should only be worn in the most casual of circumstances (i.e. swimming pool, beach, etc.) or if you are in a very warm climate and the social situation allows such.

Shoes are to be worn at all times, unless you are bathing or pretending to have a Japanese home.

Don't prop your feet up on the coffee table.

Don't put your feet on the furniture.

Do not examine your feet for bunions, calluses or burrs in front of guests.

Don't kick the seat in front of you.

It is alright to allow the cat to lick your feet.

It is alright for men or women to paint their toenails, if they like.

Toe rings and ankle bracelets are looked upon as low class, even if they are set with diamonds.

I believe that if you have shoes, well, wear them!! You should always wear them unless you are at the beach or at home. If you work where there is food you should definitely wear closed toe shoes.
