Is there a type of blindness that develops, doesn't just come suddenly, and is unable to be stopped? I mean like your vision starts to fade, and there is nothing you can do about it until eventually you loose your sight?

There are many processes that can cause gradual vision loss..some can be prevented or minimized but many can't be prevented at all. If you suspect you have any visual issues, you need to see your opthalmologist asap. Some of the processes are for one eye:
choiroiditis
inferior retinal detachment

Some can occur in one or both eyes:
cataracts
glaucoma
atrophic age-related macular degeneration
sarcoidosis
brain tumors
diabetes
retinitis pigmentosa
optic nerve hyperplasia

Some of these processes are present from birth and vision loss occurs as the person ages...there is no cure and visual loss is definite. Others are diseases that develop.
