Those that don't like Buddhism don't understand it. And those that respond negatively to your question, isn't responding to the quotes that you have shared.
No matter how many deny it or point out the teachings of peace, there is a lot of violence in both the bible and the koran It is maybe cause to many autrosities commited in the name of Jesus or Mohamed. Not to put down those two people but the commiters of the autrosities. Such violence is not a part of Buddhism. It is true however that Jews Christians and Muslims alike are told to smite their enimies; Although Christians arn't told by Jesus, but are in the Old Testament which is suposedly the word of God. I am sorry that this is likely offending people, but I most truly believe it.
In the Abrahamic faiths, we are here for God. But God is worshiped out of fear of hell. So what is the big deal to God. Buddhism is here for us. It is a guide to make us happy. Robert Thurman, a prominent American authority, likes to show that when it is you against the world, the world is going to win. Buddhism says not to separate ourselves from anyone else in this world. I see myself in anyone else and it has given me the ability to truly love my brethren.
What do I know about Buddhism? It will never be enough. Thank you so much, Jaani, for sharing this website. I saved it to my computer. I guess volumes of the teachings of Buddha could fill a room. At least that gives us something to seek for the rest of our lives.
In case you are curious, I am a Caucasian American that went to Catholic grade and High school.

It's beautiful. Almost as good as Christ's teachings, but more poetic. Buddha was pretty right judging from those quotes. The bible is more complete, but written to fuse the East and the West, so it's written to bring the two together under one God. The West is too western to understand the bible, but they are learning. The bible has such Eastern or right brain undertones that it's deceptively simple. Actually it's way ahead of even our times and that is one reason why it's meaning is missed by the literal mind. The bible is often to be taken literally, but the purpose is lost, except with the intense kind of study and testing of a scientist. That is why science is also discovering the bible, now that scientists have turned their attention in that direction. Christians will be hard pressed to follow the reasoning of pure logic applied to intuition, because they only use logic and tradition. Actually, anyone using intuitive technology, and it is not too difficult to do, the bible will bring atheist, Christian, Muslim and everyone else together, with all of them having egg on their face. But don't think that God won't be Jehovah and Christ won't be the Son of God, because that is a basic fact that they all will agree on. Truth is stranger than fiction.
Love,
Hbar

It was a progressive religion for it's time and was attractive to the lower castes in India and people who were not happy with Hinduism.
I'm not going to be converting to Buddhism any time soon.
Honestly, I just really don't see Buddhism taking over the world, but who knows. I could be wrong.
Edit:
When I say "for it's time" i mean at the time of it's beginnings.

Buddhism is more about "ahimsa" ( Not to hurt anyone mentally orally and physically). It has lots of similarity with Hinduism. It is a way of life.

I've always been attracted to it. I have lots of problems with the idea that we should detach from the material world, though. I _like_ the material world. Heh, I guess I have a few more incarnations to go.

"Anything that inspires us to see what is true and do what is good is proper practice."
"Mindfulness is the path to the Deathless.
Heedlessness is the path to death.
The mindful do not die.
But the heedless are as if dead already."
"Nature is impartial;it cannot be flattered by prayers. It does not grant any special favours on request.Humans are not fallen creatures but rising angels.Prayers are answered by the power of their own minds."
May all be happy and healthy.

I know that there are some good philosophies but I have my criticisms. Like for example "Suffering is caused by desire". This law makes cambodia and other buddist states lazy so their hospitals and agriculture sucks. Buddism is anti-technology which is its biggest downfall.
