Illegal immigration creates many problems. To name a few: loss in GDP due to under reported wages, rise in health care costs (by law we have to treat them), rise in welfare services (because they have children who are born citizens and they usually are low-income or orphaned if their parents get deported).

Some of the above responses are so vulgar, and discriminatory. How can you blame these poor "refugees", which is what they basically are, from fleeing from a war torn country with no set economy and utter political chaos? It's ironic that these "Mexicans," who are oh so commonly discrimated against, are normally harder workers, and more patriotic than those who put out racist, and moronic remarks towards them.
As a economics undergraduate student, the solutions to illegal immigration are blatantly obvious...
1. Grant amnesty to the approximately 8 million living in the states. If all immigrants were documented, eventually, after several years granted, you would have 8 million new tax-paying citizens, who would eventually make up for the social benefits they recieve as any American citizen. This, in itself, would increase tax revenue, and increase US GDP.
2. Secure the borders; while making it easier to legally obtain US citizenship. The laws that are currently in place are ridiculous. People trying to enter the county legally may wait years to obtain a VISA, and would eventually realize the process simply doesn't work; tempting them to enter illegally. Nevertheless, a secure border is a must to prevent future illegal entry.
3. Adjust immigration quotas to current world conditions. Obviously, a greater number of hispanics should be granted entrace considering their current political and economic state, while other countries' quotas should be decreased.
I know it must be hard for some people to get over their instinctive racist tendencies, considering that is what our country was founded on... but when one thinks about a problem, economic and moral solutions are not that hard to come across.

I agree with bliss. Valid points. Especially about how none of them contribue to government revenue, yet all of them have no trouble using the system, all of which costs money...=diminshed GDP
BOO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, If all these mexicorns would spend more time fixing their own government instead of running from it, perhaps mexico and all the shits the come from it wouldn't suck so bad
HAPPY NEW YEARS TO ALL YOU LEGAL IMMIGRANTS
