When people ask" have you been saved" does that mean by asking god to come into your heart ,and turning your life over to christ? Or does it mean being babtized in a church?? growing up my family only went to church on holidays so i am pretty new to "religion" except that i do believe in god and i have told god to come into my life.Is that what "saving is about?"There is so much i do not understand,but want to learn.

Sounds to me like you have taken a step in the right direction. If you believe and have asked to receive, you will. Sometimes it takes an awful lot of prayer and study to find the way to grow.

Well, let's get some things straight, you do not tell God to do anything, He is totally sovereign and does what is His good pleasure to do. Biblically speaking, all humans are born into sin and have a sin nature and are destined for Hell. God cannot allow sin into Heaven. The only way to forgive sin is through the death of an innocent being. The Jews would sacrifice innocent animals to cover their sins, but it did not bring total forgiveness. This may seem harsh, but sin is so offensive to a totally holy and righteous God, that death is the only appeasement for sin. Christ came to earth as a willing sacrifice for the sins of His people. Christ was totally sinless and the only one who could offer such a sacrifice. God chose some to be saved, they are the elect, the called out ones. They are the ones who are saved. Christ's death and resurrection was the perfect sacrifice. Through this act, those who are called are declared righteous and justified before God. A person is saved from the beginning of the time, his name written in the book of life. The Holy Spirit at some time in a persons life, who is elect, awakens them. They realize there is a God, see their sin condition, realize there is nothing they can do to remove it, and see that Christ is the only way out. It is at that time the person goes from spiritually dead to alive in Christ.
Baptism is an act a believer participates in to make an outward expression of his inward change.

It means asking god to come into your heart ,and turning your life over to christ. It also means admitting that you are a sinner and asking forgiveness for your sins and turning from your sins. Does that mean you'll never sin again? No! You are only Human and God Knows that, You will make mistakes and when you do you have a heavenly Father who will forgive you if you go to him with a sincere repentant heart. Baptism Is not a must for salvation. Baptism is an outward show of an inward Faith.

These are just some Christian Terms, I will try to answer them for you in a simple way.
"Have you been saved?"
Many Christians always use this phrase assuming non-Christians might know. Even most Christians might only convey half of this meaning.
To be saved is 2-fold
1) To be saved from.....Destruction, second death, Hell, curses, death...etc
2) To be saved for..... honor, good works, God, worshipping God, fellowship with God... etc
Usually when you hear "have you been saved?", the Christian is reffering to point 1. Seldom do you hear them expounding on point 2 if they do explain it.
"Asking God to come into your heart"
This is called believing, the verse is found in Romans, believe in your heart...
"Turning your life over to Christ"
This is called repenting. It simply means that we must turn away our sins and return to God with a right attitute. So that means following after Christ.
To be saved... you need to repent and believe... that is turn away from your sins and believe that Jesus is the son of God and is able to save you.
So now you are saved from destruction and we need to walk out our salvation daily because we are saved not by good works but for good works. We were saved, we are saved and we are being saved.

It means by asking Jesus Christ to be Lord of your heart and your life. Baptism is only a public confession that you have done so. Baptism will not save you but it's something you need to do in obedience plus the fact that it settles it forever that you sold out to sin and bought into Christ. PEACE!!!

It means asking Jesus to be the Lord of your life.No church can save you .Only a personal relationship with Jesus can.You have to believe the Gospel.That Jesus was virgin born,that he was the eternal Son of God,that he died for our sins,and rose the 3rd day,and is sitting now at the right hand of God the Father.

Baptism is just and outward picture of an inward change. It is declaring your faith to the world. It is also your first act of obedience after getting saved. Being saved means realising that you are a sinner and that you need Jesus Christ. All of your sins were nailed to the cross with Jesus. All you have to do is accept that gift. Talk to Jesus and acknowledge your sin and acknowledge that he shed his blood for you on the cross and that he rose again. Ask him to come into your heart and stay with you always. Understanding that it is only by grace through the blood of Jesus that we are saved. And understanding that you can not save yourself. You can not work your way into heaven by being a good person.
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

It depends on the church. Some think "saved" means communion, others think it means baptism, others simply think it means accepting Jesus into your heart. All three signify being saved, but the true salvation comes when you accept Christ into your heart. You get baptized because of Christ, you have communion because of Christ.

Baptism is not essential for salvation. Being born again is. There are some churches who say baptism in mandatory but none of them can explain the thief on the cross being told he will be in paradise with Jesus that very day...exceptions...well I don't do exceptions. It's not scientific.
