Ouch. If the pain seems to just get worse and you seem to feel worse as the day goes on most likely it's strep throat. If it hurts like crazy to swallow your own saliva then you should set up an appointment with your doctor. You'll need a script to get better. In the mean time gargle with some salt water, suck on cough drops, drink some tea with honey/lemon and take some Ibuprofen for the pain. Make sure you take in plenty of fluids so you don't become dehydrated as well. Try to stay away from people because it is very contagious. I hope you feel better soon.

A sore throat like this could be anything from allergies (the mucus that some allergies produces causes irritation to the lining of the throat and may even cause an ear infection) to tonsilitis.
However, it could be something much more serious (especially if you are a chronic smoker/drinker).
I would have this checked out by my health care provider.
Until then, drink hot tea or warm soup.
I don't think this warrants being contagious; however, since usually a temperature indicates your body fighting off a bacteria like strep.
Good luck.

Boy can I empathize with you. I had the same problem when I was pregnant with my youngest- and the doctor told me the same thing. I was able to find throat lozenges and spray that numbed up things for a short while. It's a product called Choloraseptic, and comes in a cherry flavor. I don't know if you can get in at the chemist there or not- but if you can it does help a bit. I ended up just nearly constantly sipping nearly freezing cold liquids to keep my throat moist. I also froze bits of fruit for the cold juice. I found if I kept the throat moist, it hurt a lot less. And cold was definitely better than hot. My cough got to the point I wasn't able to sleep either, and between the throat and lack of sleep I started losing weight. I began to think I might just cough the baby out, and I wouldn't have minded. At that point, the doctor actually suggested a toddy. I don't care for whiskey, so I made mine more of a rum toddy. I only did it twice, in the evening before bed, and the sleep actually seemed to help me turn the corner. I would check with your doctor before doing that one, though. If you can't find the Chloraseptic, you could ask the doctor about a topical lidocaine gel or spray, like the dentist uses to numb your gums before your injection. I had that as well, though mine was nasty tasting, it relieved things so I could at least swallow the soup. You have my sincere sympathies. I was ill for nearly a full month, for the same reasons- you can't have the antibiotics or cough syrups normally used, and riding it out is all that's left. I hope you find something to help, and get to feeling better soon.

for sore throats, i have found that gargling with unpasteurized apple cider vinegar will take out the worst sore throats, even strep. but, you have no fever. your body goes into overdrive when it is fighting an infection, causing a fever. I'd say in this case, if it were me, i would see a doctor and have some cultures done. until you can, go with the gargling, just in case, and aspirin or ibuprofen, lightly....
good luck

Go to the doctor. You may have strep or other infection and require medicine. And why would a golf ball have ear pain.

you could have tonsilities(not sure of spelling) or streap throat. Or you could have an ear infection and the swelling is settling in your throat. You need to go to a dr. and get checked out.
