For the next day or so, you need to just let them get used to their new home, new sounds, etc.. If they're already used to being handled, get them out in the morning, and let them play. I prefer to see people leave the cage door open, so they are not caged animals, but rather a part of your family. The more time you spend with them, the more they will like you, and being handled. Never punish stike them, or raise your voice at them, or let anyone else do it, and they will like people their whole life---Birdman

first, yes, give it a day or two to warm up to it's new surroundings. Then handle it everyday. but here's a guide;
Your bird will be frightened when it is added to a new cage. Give him a day or two to get used to his new home before you try to handle it. The cage should be placed off the floor in an area that is well-lit and away from drafts. Locate the cage in an area where there is a lot of family activity, and talk to it in a soothing voice as often as possible. During the first few nights cover the cage in the early evening.
TOYS
Exercise and play are important activities for the physical well-being and psychological health of your Parakeet. Toys are designed to stimulate the bird’s mind as well as its motor skills. Watch out for toys that have "Jingle" type bells on them for your bird can easily get its beak, feet, head, tongue and feathers in the bell. Also if you get a rope toy watch for any fraying that happens for your bird's feet and toes can get stuck in them. Just cut any fraying to prevent this. Make sure toys do not contain any lead, zinc, or lead and lead-based paints or nothing small they can
break off or swallow, and nothing they can get caught or strangled in. Some cheap and fun toys for your Parakeet can be an empty toilet roll, a bracelet (plastic and not harmful) wrapped around its perch or a rolled up newspaper for them to shred up.

Active and need daily time out of their cages to interact with the family
Enjoy a variety of chew toys; social and get along well with their own kind

Parakeets love a little birdbath to bathe in!
GEt a shallow fishbowl and put something, a flat rock, in it for them to stand on. Let them sit on the edge of the bowl and they will jump in and splash and take a bath. They all LOVE this!
NO do not clip their wings, let them fly around the house!!!
It is the height of cruelty to clip a parakeets wings.
Also put a little mirror inside their cage so that they can admire themselves, they also love this. Also a cuttlebone to rub their peaks on is a must. Also, that sandpaper that wraps around their perches is very good for their feet.

Clip their wings and leave their cage door open. When they feel comfortable they will start coming out and sitting on the cage. Put a chair next to the cage so you and your friends can be close to them and talk to them and try to pet them. A handfed bird is alot easier to have for a pet they won't bite you at all.
