I think it's pretty sad. Death shouldn't be a punishment.

I notice your online name is Jewish Girl 09 and I can only assume that you are Jewish.
Sudam did to his people what Hitler did to the Jews during persecution yet worse. . if that is possible.
He did such unspeakable acts against not only the people he ruled over but to members of his own family.
If this man was so right in what he did,why did he resort to hiding in an underground fortress? Even he knew that this day would come.
Look how he behaved during this trial. . . wouldn't show up because they wouldn't give him a clean suit. . . *%__&+_%*%* when they "dug" him out,he only had dirty underwear on and now he wants a clean suit.
During trial he shouted and shook his fist. . . this is something that only Satan would do and Satan he was.
In some ways I wish this country would resort to the same kind of punishment Sudam's country imposes. . . look how our crime rate would drop.
Sudam got off easy compared to what he did to sooo many people and the hanging was way tooo kind and good .
YES,he not only deserved it. . . it's like Smith Barney says. . . He EARNED it.

I've always felt that punishment should be a way to correct behavior. Someone does something bad, you punish them and they stop. Using death as a punishment doesn't make sense. How can you change your behavior if you're dead?
Now I'm not totally against using execution, but only in severe cases in which the safety of the public is involved. Some serial killers are just too dangerous to have around even if they're in maximum security. If there is a change they could escape and they are that much of a threat to the community, I think those people have a right to remove that threat.
As for Saddam, I have mixed feelings. Even if he escaped, his chances for coming back into power or having any role in Iraq would be slim. I think his execution was for vengeance more than it was for any sort of resolution or safety. And the way people danced around was in very very poor taste. I think it's horrible to celebrate anyone's death, no matter how justified.
Only time will tell what will come of it.

That's not an easy question to answer. One thing is deserving of the punishment of death, another is whether it was appropriate. I'm not sure trial and execution of a former leader are appropriate in the middle of a civil war. If he did a tenth of what he is accused of doing, then he deserved death - but an awful lot of other people deserve death too.
God will be his ultimate judge.
One thing that is wrong, is to gloat over anyone's death. Ending a life is too serious for that..

Yes, he deserved it. What sort of punishment do you think a person responsible for the deaths of nearly 2 million people deserves? He used intiating wars, gas, nuero-toxins, bombs, live burials, machine guns, pretty well anything he could get his hands on to kill the people of the country he was in charge of. Even if, by a million to one chance he didn't issue the orders to do these thing, he was the guy in charge and it was his job to know this was happening and to stop it. As Eisenhower would say: The Buck stops with the President. He didn't try to stop it because he was actually issuing the orders.

There is a wide chasm between the way "things oughtta be" and the way things are.
The "death shouldn't be a punishment" door swings both ways. Hussein regularly used death (and torture) as punishments for running against him for the presidency, demanding rights, being female, being related to someone he didn't like... He murdered thousands of people and didn't bat an eye...
He would not have been in prison long, had they have decided to just keep him in prison. SOMEone would have sprung him from prison.
It IS sad... but, I don't think that the Iraqi people had a big choice.
The man taunted them even as he went to his death. No remorse whatsoever for all the intense pain and suffering he, himself, caused.

Bush and Blair talked about Saddam being cruel and inhumane, but they are hypocrites. The U.S. and Japan are the only two industrialized countries that support the death penalty because every other industrialized nation view it as cruel and inhuman (which it is). I believe that Saddam was not tried in a fair court and that Bush, Blair, and the new Iraq government should set an example of being humane and not acting as Saddam would have if he were still in power. The death penalty is wrong, no one should have the right to take another’s life no matter how severe the crime.

I think he got off light. He should have been made to suffer publicly.
Why shouldn't death be a punishment? Should more money be spent to house incorrigable murderers and dangerous offenders?

If there was ever a poster boy for capital punishment it was Sadam Husein. My own personal view is, to quote so many Westerns, "hanging's too good for him." Next we'd like to see Osama bin Laden and that racist nitwit in Iran swinging from ropes.

Then what about the 2 million people he killed, many were women and children. Aren't you aware that he gassed thousands of people with Saran nerve gas. What a horrible way to die! I guess we should have forgiven him (live and let live) and let him retire to one of his 17 palaces with 72 heavenly virgins at his command. Killing is awful but a guy like Saddam derved it.

Oh my gosh, I TOTALLY agree with you!! It IS extremely sad that he got DEATH as a punishment. He should have gotten FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR worse than death and THEN death, but he got away with a simple hanging. Saddest thing.
