I took care of a dog that was 16, I wanted to get her a Drivers License. That's probably older then half of the people on answers.
Note: after the first dog or cat year, they are more like teenagers then a 7 year old.

The typical lifespan of dogs varies considerably by breed. For example, many giant dog breeds average only 7 or 8 years, while some small terrier breeds might live as long as 20 years. The average lifespan for mixed-breed and midsize dogs is about 13 to 14 years. The longest-lived dog with reliable documentation died at 29 in 1939. ((Wikipedia))

A dogs age is 7 years to 1 year in humans. If your dog is 5 years old that is really 15 years in dog years.

it 's a hard question.but it 's better to follow the nature ,let the dog live as long as it can .and try your best to treat it well ,let it be happy every day ,it's enough for it ,anything don't need long life ,all they need is pure love and care .
