why is mixed breeded dogs so damn popular??

why is everyone wasting there money on stupid mixed breeded dogs now? i have nothing agaisnt a mutt but i sure the hell wouldnt want to pay 300 dollars for one. like a lab and a poodle makes a labradoodle,lol. or the million other mutts out there like puggles and things. cmon now there has been mutts for years from just dogs reproducing by accident that werent of the same breed and people would have to get rid of them for free, now they are making money off of them?? why? what is so popular about them all of a sudden, i think it is just a easy way for people to make some easy money. i got a purebred beagle and lab and id never let them breed to make a mutt just for some money, it is stupid, completly stupid. and if you buy one of these animals you are wasting your money because you could go to your local humane society and save a life of a mixed dog and at the same time save yourself 200 dollars.

I wouldn't pay for a "designer" mutt either, but I do really love my mix that I got from the shelter. She's a lab, maybe, or perhaps golden retriever, with some terrier thrown in there... we really don't know, and that's part of the fun!

But besides that, mixes do miss a lot of the problems of in-bred pure dogs. Fewer of them have hip dysplasia, skin problems, and allergies that have basically been bred into too many purebred populations. This is at least true for "happy accidents". The "designer" ones are still at risk, because they're poor stock to begin with. Why? These breeders are not concerned about breed standards and health, they're just making a buck on a fad. So why start with a quality poodle and a great Lab? Just get so-so ones, and start pumping out the puppies. Ugh, what a way to overpopulate the earth with unfortunate pups.

But as far as behavior goes, mutts can be just as barky and yappy and frustrating as a purebred. Behavior is learned and modified by the owner as much as it's in their genes.

I do not know. I suppose because it is the latest fad. I have nothing against mixed breeds either but why spend big bucks on a dog from so called "breeders" when there are so many in pounds and shelters that do not have homes. People do not realize that every time they purchase one of these so called designer dogs that they keep unscrupulous people in business that add to the millions of unwanted dogs.
Also it is a shame that people are under the misconception that mixed breeds are healthier and smarter. Mixed breeds are just as likely (if not more) to have health problems as pure breeds because the dogs used to produce these designer dogs are usually poorly bred animals to begin with and as for the mixes being smarter well as I said the designer dogs are usually bred from poor quality(meaning temperament and health) dogs. If people would do a little research before spending hundreds and sometimes thousands on these dogs maybe they would be less inclined.

you cannot get registration papers for a mixed breed animal. A true purebreed would have parents of the same breed. A breeder would legally not be able to "paper" mixed puppies and sell them. The AKC would not accept phoney paperwork, they have rules you must follow. As far as why people would like a mixed breed is that you can often get some of the best temperments, you get a mix of the qualities of the animals, so if there were bad things in their linneage it may be a bit subdued in a mixed breed.

Well in a way what you said is true.. that there is no point in paying that much money for a labradoodle..:))....but there are certain biological advantages in this method...i suppose you must be familiar with the term selective breeding.. this kind of breeding was done to get a stronger and high immunity breeds of dogs for hunting,watchdogs etc. like there are rumours that people used to mix wild dogs with german sheperds/grey hounds (for making them more resistant towards diseases)...as you know pure breeds are very susceptible to diseases...

so thats the real purpose of mixed breeding....and i dont guess creating a labradoodle is a good idea....:))....people are just wasting money....

I really don't care about breeds to much but when i see a mixed dog like a wiener dog which is really long and mini legs it just dont lookd right to me. I wouldn't take one for free. Some of the mixed dogs are cute but some make me wonder what the breeder was thinking. I have a full blooded Chihuahua and paid $150 for it with Papers and all.

I never heard of a lab and poodle mixed, the poodle would need to be the standard size poodle. The mixed purebred dogs are called "designer dogs" and they are less expensive than 100% purebred of 1 kind. I raise Yorkies, they have a wonderful temperment and anything mixed with them are just darling, but I don't mix with any other breeds. I guess it is up to the person buying the dog.

Mixed breeds usually have a better disposition. I do have to agree with you about paying big bucks for designer mutts -- it's not something I would do considering how many dogs needs homes but people are entitled to spend their money are they see fit.

I have nothing against mixed breeds, just wish people would wise up and not spend hundreds even thousands of dollars on them. Mutts are mutts, loveable as they may be.

[x] Great for allegies eg- Labradoodles

I have 2 mixed breed dogs and I wouldn't have paid for them, then again i wouldn't pay for a pure breed. there's plenty of dogs that need good homes at shelters i would go there b4 i'd pay for a pure bred.
