I need to be able to press a push button switch but have the circuit open faster than I can remove my finger. This is connected to a multivibrator which is set for a very fast pulse but the pulse is not consistent because the pushbutton stays down longer than the pulse would be, extending the pulse.

I would try a normally closed switch with a small capacitor in series to the load - when you press the switch (open the power supply circuit) the capacitor will discharge as short or long a pulse as you wish, depending on the capacitor's value. Holding the switch longer will have no effect on the pulse.
When you release the switch, the capacitor will simply recharge, ready for the next cycle.

Perhaps you need a relay with a make before break relay. It can be a spdt relay, where the swinger closes a contact before leaving the normally closed contact. Then it opens the normally closed contact to interrupt the circuit just made. Probably it can be adjusted to give you the time in milliseconds that you want the circuit closed.
