What should I do about my game?

I had the Sims 2 installed on my computer until I downloaded some custom items from the official site. Then it seemed to uninstall itself. For some reason, when I put the disk in, the computer wants me to install it. All the other files except the main one you click on to play the game are present. The icon just disapeared from my desktop!

Should I just go ahead and reinstall it? I don't wan't to lose my saved lots and sims.

look in the folder you installed in,
there must be same exe/shortcut there.
