Appreciate all the responses to my internet addiction question. As I said, it's been good therapy.

As I mentioned, I don't like going out to bars to meet friends or perspective dates, but would like to find a chat group to talk with. Where do I go to in order to do this? Are these chat groups including people all over the U.S.? I'm kind of new to all this stuff, so excuse my computer ignorance.

It's scary when you are just coming out of a somewhat secure life and now I have to figure a way to plan my own retirement and a place to live in eventually. I had to move back home at 40, since I didn't invest in a career when I was younger and wanted instant gratification or maybe thought I was feeling a void in my life. Well, my dreams didn't work out, so now I have myself to worry out.

No, I don't think a man is a solution to my problem. I just need to figure out ways to earn more money on my own to achieve my idea of peace. Maybe some of us are better off without love.

Internet addiction is like any other addiction, whether it be alcohol, smoking, sex or gambling. You have to reduce your use of the "drug," so to speak. Surfing the web is similar to smoking or alcohol; once you have that initial "high" it takes much longer to keep going on that same high. You may lose satisfaction in surfing over time, but the drive for instant gratification is constant, hence the constant surfing. To win against the addiction, you need to limit yourself and stick to the plan of not surfing the internet nearly as much. Once you do that, you'll be better for it. Good luck!

A good place to start is yahoo groups. From yahoo's main page you'll find a link to groups along the left side (your left).

If you live in a big city, it's not too hard to find places that have activities. The web site meet-up has listings for almost any kind of group you might be interested in. Take it slow if your not real outgoing. There's nothing wrong with being shy. Infact it's good to be resereved with people until you know them.

I can't agree about being better off without love. Find true love in otherways. I have found that friendships produce stronger and more lasting unconditional love.

Go set up a friendster or myspace and from there, find some friends from all around the world and share what you would like to with them, provided that they also want to hear what you have to say and that they are also willing to host a hearty chat with you.
