Sorry about that. It was an innocent mistake by my estimation.
I don't allow people to pet my dogs. It avoids that whole issue.
My dogs are small with large mouths and teeth. They are known to bite, as a breed, not my angels. But when people come over I sequester my dogs inside a fenced in circle in the house so that the dogs see the visitors. Only people who know my dogs are allowed to go over and visit with the dogs.
Many dogs will bite an intruder in their domain if they feel that there is a threat. It isn't really Cedrics fault in this instance.
He did what he was supposed to do, growl and let the offender know to back off. I know things happen quickly, but that's when I would have grabbed my visitors hand and jerked it away. Of course that's easy for me to say huh?
Dogs gather information very differently that we do.
The best way to insure that Cedric never bites again is to control the environment.
I had a Rot that was HUGE and very intimidating. I would close him in a room whenever a repair man would come into the house. All of the tools and clip board and their cell phone ringing, who knows how treatening all of that would look to my protector.
We want our dogs to be protective, we just must control them by sequestering them when we aren't sure how they may react.
Best of luck. Happy New Year!

oh i am so very sorry but since you have a rot, if word gets out that he bit someone it is not fare but he will have to be reproductions probably quite serious it is not fare but since you have that type of dog that bread is known to be bad,
now to prevent the biting again, if people that have disabilities ,like hard at hearing come over to your home, you have to be so careful! explain to the person that your dog might not be in the mood to be pet.
number two. keep your dog with in view, even if you have to keep a leash on him when visitors are over. teach Cedric that if he can not be trusted around people some of his freedom will be taken away. and since he is still quite young, does he play bite?
if so when he does, get up walk away from him. ignore him!! so dogs crave attention and he will get that when he bites he gets no attention witch will tell him to get attention he can't nip. hope this advise work it did on my German Shepard

This is definitely not OK. This dog needs to be taken to obedience classes run by a qualified instructor (NOT Pet Smart). Why wasn't the dog stopped when he gave the first growl? You people need to get someone to teach you how to train your dog because he will get worse since you can't seem to discipline or train him.
This is a prime reason why rotties have such a bad reputation - owners who haven't a clue how to handle the dog!

make cedrick stay behind you at a distance when welcoming visitors. this will take practice. Cedrick needs to know what his boundries are. When he is calm and supervised let him smell the visitor to assure him its ok. Cedrick may be a very protective or anxious dog so be patient . Have people come to your home just to practice keeping Cedrick at a comfortable distance until you are ready for him to meet your visitor, Hope it helps. Happy New Year

You can put the dog in another room when you have visitors and these things won't happen.
Your dog is an animal. And as such can never be entirely trusted not to do such things.
In the dogs mind he was only protecting your husband from a stranger who started out by forcing his attention on the dog rather than let the dog check him out first. When he growled he was saying "Hey buddy who're you to touch me?!" "I did'nt say you could do that!""I have a master and you are not it so keep your hands to yourself fool!"And by ignoring the dog and petting it anyway the dog took this as a gesture of dominance from someone he does'nt know.
In my opinion the guy deserved to get bit.
Who is this person to you that they come into your home and try to dominate your dog?Do you operate a petting zoo?
This is one of my biggest peeves about people in general.they see my dogs and just assume it's fine to go out of their way to touch them.
People think that since they are above all animals that every one they see should bow to them and do what they expect regardless of the fact they do not own them.
I don't touch other peoples kids or property and do not like being disrespected when people touch mine.
You're going to have to pay for that bite so hope your dogs shots are up to date and you have plenty of insurance to cover it.You allowed the fool in your house and the dog to be put in a situation that it felt the need to defend itself and your husband rather than keep it out of harms way by putting him up so this is in fact your fault.
I hope this is not a high cost lesson.

When you are having company you should put him on a leash and let him realize he has to be controlled when company comes and he will eventually be better behaved. Sometimes even with a good well-behaved dog, there is always someone they do not like, you have to be on your toes. He will probably always have to be watched.

Make you home visitor proof. The dog did his job-don't work on the dog, work on yorself and your visitors. Put the dog up when visitors come.
