This is the link to the California AVOID DUI enforcement program. Search the links for enforcement activity and there should be a press release on when and where there may be a DUI checkpoint. There should be information for your county.

The officers at the checkpoint may ask for a driver's license and will briefly evaluate the driver to determine whether or not s/he has been drinking. A driver will be asked to pull over to the side of the roadway if the officer observes a vehicle code violation or the driver displays objective symptoms of having consumed alcoholic beverages.

To be used in court, DUI checkpoints have to be announced in advance. So check with the LA Times or other newspapers for locations.
The PD can ask whatever they want - license, registration, proof of insurance, where you have been, where you are going, have you had anything to drink. They can check for seatbelts too.
Drive safely & have a great New Year's Eve and 2007.

They're checking to see if you're driving erratically or if you look intoxicated, and they're also checking licenses. Sobriety checkpoints are a blatant Fourth Amendment violation, and you should tell them that they're required to have Probable Cause before they can stop you. Our Constitution forbids searches like this by requiring the law enforcement have probable cause to believe you've broken the law before they can search you. You should take this up with a lawyer and fight it, if you can.

They ask for License, Registration and Proof of Insurance. If they smell alcohol then they will pull you over and do their tests.
You better have ALL 3 of them, AND NO smell of alcohol.
