I am going away for 4 days in February and want to look into a timed feeder. Shadow is on canned food right now....1/2 can in the am and then pm. What should I do? What do you do when you go away.

I don't think there is such a thing as an automatic canned food feeder. The reason is canned food only stays good for a couple of hours, so you couldn't just stuff canned food into it and have it dispensed, unless it has a refrigeration unit built into it, which would make it way too expensive.

Basically, you have 3 options:

1. Give the cat dry food for the time you are away. Preferably, you want to get him used to it before going away; maybe start giving him a mixed canned/dry food diet, gradually increasing the dry and decreasing the wet.
2. Get a friend or family member to come over once to twice a day to feed the cat his wet food
3. Look into boarding him at a kennel/vet hospital for the time you are away.

Check w/ your vet about boarding the cat for those 4 days. I really don't know if there is an automatic feeder for canned food.

You shouldn't be feeding him canned food all the time, anyway - only as a special treat. He should only be on dry food. Usually, we would only be away a max of two days, and leave several bowls of dry food and lots of water. With you being away four days, you need to have someone come in and feed him, and look in on him. I used to do that for neighbours when I was a kid, and loved doing it.
